What’s new in the Infrastructure Division

I am delighted to report on the projects and orders we are currently working on in the Infrastructure Division and on our products and their applications which you as an operator of rail-based services can optimally use. I will also give you an update on the challenges presently posed by the fraught situation worldwide and the counteractive measures which HANNING & KAHL has introduced in the Infrastructure Division. By Jens Meinecke

Projects and Orders
Order intake and current business position in the Infrastructure Division are very good as confirmed by diverse conversations at the InnoTrans in September in Berlin: our equipment and systems like point controllers, signalling installations, point machines and vehicle-detection systems are highly reliable and they fulfil safety requirements worldwide. The supply program is effectively rounded off by our project planning and service work, which includes spare-part business.

The Mauritius Metro Express is just one example of our comprehensive projects.
In April 2018, HANNING & KAHL was awarded a major contract by CAF Turnkey & Engineering for the supply of signalling and control technology for a new metro system on the island of Mauritius. For this three-phase project, we are supplying the controllers and signalling installations, point machines, our carborne equipment and onboard computers for the automatic vehicle-locating system.

The first phase of the metro system from Port Louis to Rose Hill (13 kilometres) was completed in December 2019. In 2022, in a second stage, the line was extended to Curepipe, taking line length to 24 kilometres. This section has now been commissioned. The third phase is under construction with opening planned for December this year.

Strained global situation
While providing technically sophisticated products and highly reliable systems and applications in the Infrastructure Division, we self-critically ask ourselves why our adherence to delivery dates currently falls short of the performance which you have become accustomed to over the decades. The strained global supply chain and staff absence due to Covid 19 require dynamic reaction. We are trying to compensate for the problems our sub-suppliers are facing by looking for alternative suppliers or other procurement options. Through internal, interdepartmental coordination meetings and in direct contact with you, we are gradually improving the situation with pinpointed measures.
Despite the strained situation, we ask you to continue to bank on HANNING & KAHL and the Infrastructure Division. Our team is pulling out all the stops to achieve the delivery reliability you appreciate. Thank you for continuing to place your trust in our team, and please stay safe and well.
