BMSbasic – The basic package for your depot control

By Stephan Fromm, Verkehrsautomatisierung Berlin GmbH

The BMSbasic solution is a standardised and cost-effective option for the control of the most important processes in the depot. This software solution assists dispatchers with their daily routine from vehicles entering the depot and service processes to optimal parking planning and allocation for the next day of operation.

A graphical view along with the evaluation of occupation, entries and exits and the daily sequences ensure that you keep the overview of what is happening in your depot.

Keeping pace with developments
The range of functions can be extended any time. The BMSbasic solution enables you to see the charging processes and availability of your e-bus fleet and charging infrastructure at a glance. Thus you are excellently equipped for the shift to electromobility. The system collects charge management information to ensure that each vehicle is fully charged at the scheduled departure time.

Why the BMSbasic solution?
BMSbasic supports you with the necessary range of functions for depot management at a favourable price.

Scope of functions

Setting and managing
All vehicles, parking spaces, tracks, charging stations and messages can be entered and tracked using the depot image. It also enables you to assign attributes and rules to all operating sequences and vehicles.

Depot image
The depot image is a simplified representation of your depot ensuring flawless operation. It shows the layout of the depot with all the parking spaces, tracks and charging stations. It also indicates faults enabling the dispatcher to react directly.

Vehicle management
The vehicle management assigns attributes to the vehicles with which the allocation can be controlled and influenced.

Gauge and track properties
Gauge and track properties can be pre-set for flawless allocation.

Parameter management
The parameter management enables you to make basic settings in BMSbasic. These contribute to controlled depot processes such as the presence of drivers before starting the route.

Keep on track
Manual allocation is the basis for compliance with timetables and operating sequences. Unpredictable things can also happen during the vehicle run. With BMSbasic, the dispatcher can always react quickly.

Manual allocation
Manual allocation enables the dispatcher to influence the parking space, destination and circulation of the respective vehicle.

Replacement
With BMSbasic, replacement vehicles can be provided in case a vehicle has started its route but cannot complete it as scheduled.

Deviations
BMSbasic informs customers and the operator about timetable delays.

Substituting vehicles
You can provide for the exchange of vehicles at a predetermined point of the route.
The replacement vehicle completes the route, saving time and resources.

Special runs
Special runs can be planned in the timetable editor in addition to normal vehicle operation.

In the right place at the right time
Registration of entries/exits in the depot management system maps and visualises vehicles in the depot. The depot destination display directs the driver to the right parking space, cleaning or charging station or into the workshop, as required.

Manual entry/exit
The manual entry/exit enables the registration of vehicles and coordination of vehicle operations.

Workshop functions
The workshop functions include notifications of defects on vehicles, an ordering function for workshop appointments as well as timely planning and monitoring of cyclical measures such as regular maintenance and cleaning.

Destination display
The digital destination display assigns the driver a parking space in the depot. The display can be set up in the vehicle or as a stationary external unit.

Fully exploit potential

Evaluation lists
BMSbasic collects data on the operating sequence for a configurable period of time.
This data is collected, categorised and stored in reports for evaluation purposes.

Interfaces & extensions
There are interfaces to timetables (VDV452), charging management (VDV463), vehicle location, driver registration, destination display and smartITCS. Further interfaces to staff and vehicle planning and ERP systems like SAP and can be integrated. The transfer formats (e.g. csv for vehicles, staff, etc.) will be defined in each case.
