Hydraulic test station for Innovia Metro in Kuala Lumpur

For the Innovia Metro trains on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line in Kuala Lumpur, Alstom ordered a hydraulic test station from HANNING & KAHL, and this was recently commissioned for operator Prasarana Malaysia (Rapid Rail). By Ievgen Kostyna

The fully automatic driverless vehicles which largely run underground or on elevated railway lines with 5-minute headway in rush hour provide reliable operation on the 46.4 km LRT line with 37 stations.

The two-week assignment for end customer Prasarana Malaysia which included commissioning of the test station and training workshops for two teams took place under challenging conditions with up to 35 degrees Celsius and around 80 % humidity. Fortunately, the training rooms and workshops had air conditioning.

The test station was commissioned; every detail of the commissioning protocol was carefully checked, and the operating staff intensively trained in the use of the test station and in the general overhaul of HANNING & KAHL’s hydraulic braking system. Parallel, some components of the braking system were repaired to ensure full operational capability. Prasarana was very satisfied with the test station and the commissioning.

Apart from general overhauls, the test station enables precise inspections, maintenance, and repairs of brake components under realistic conditions. These, in turn, can minimise sources of error and ensure efficient workflow. The test station is thus an important foundation for the safety and reliability of the Innovia Metro trains in Klang Valley, and ensures smooth and efficient light rail transport.
