More HP than you have had hot dinners
In a world, in which electric cars impress with quiet humming and intelligent restraint, Koenigsegg has obviously decided: enough. Instead of range predictions and charging times, they offer brute engine power, airplane-size wings and a name which sounds like something from a fantasy novel. Welcome to Sadair‘s Spear – the latest hyper car made by the Swedish hp forge. by Sigrid Riewe-Scholz
What on earth is “Sadair‘s Spear’’?
The name comes from a racehorse. To be precise: the favourite horse of the father of the company boss, jockey Jesko von Koenigsegg, and the horse he rode in his last race in 1976. And yes, it really is called “The Spear of Sadair’’ – who or what Sadair was, remains unclear. But without doubt it was a swift animal. Sufficient as justification.
1.647 PS – in case you are running late
The Spear is driven by a 5-litre V8 with twin turbocharging, spitting up to 1,624 HP – provided one feeds it E85 ethanol fuel, which drops to “only” 1,299 HP with normal Super. In other words: please fill the tank like a genuine enthusiast, not someone who worries about fuel prices.
All coupled with Koenigsegg’s own 9-speed, multi-clutch transmission called Light Speed Transmission. No, this is not a marketing gag – it really changes gear faster than you can say “How much does a new set of tyres cost?“.
Air, wings, flaps – Downforce is key
Visually, Sadair‘s Spear is an aerodynamic tantrum: enlarged air inlets, an active giant rear wing, wheel arch trims, Gurney flaps – the lot. On Koenigsegg‘s own test track, the Gotland Ring, it was 1.1 second faster than the not exactly tame Jesko Attack. So yes: It flies. Just without lift-off.
Lightweight construction? But with style, please!
With carbon fibre everywhere (even on the wheel rims) and dispensing with insulation, the Spear has a power-to-weight ratio of under 1 kg/PS. And yet it has: touchscreen, USB ports, inductive charging and parking aid from a bird‘s eye view – luxury can be light.
Price? Of course.
Around 4.45 million Euro. And although Sadair’s Spear is a limited-production model with just 30 units, it sold out quicker than you could ask “Cash or bank transfer?”
To sum up: Why all this?
Does anyone need this? No. Does anyone want this? Absolutely.
Sadair’s Spear is not a car, it is a statement: of speed, of eccentricity, of abundance of pure joy. And for everyone for whom a normal car is simply too ... sane.
