Frankfurt public delighted by tram spectacle

The 11th European Tramdriver Championship (TRAM-EM), sponsored by HANNING & KAHL, took place at Willy-Brandt-Platz square in the heart of Frankfurt on 14 September 2024. Despite having home advantage, the Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF) team did not manage to assert itself in the title race and finished 16th out of 26 participating teams from 21 countries. The many spectators got to see the drivers test their skilfulness, concentration and dexterity over a 170 metre course during the competition, which was held in a great atmosphere.

The team from Budapest secured the title with 3,850 points, closely followed by the team from Brussels with 3,800 points. Krakow finished third with 3,100 points. Despite the host team’s disappointing result, the event was a complete success – the spectators clearly enjoyed the spectacle and cheered on the drivers.

In addition to the fantastic sporting achievements, TRAM-EM also provided an opportunity for international exchange and entertainment. The 12th iteration of the competition will take place next year in Vienna.
