New hydraulic oils for brake components and point machines
For over 15 years now, HANNING & KAHL has used Pentopol J32 hydraulic oil as standard for its hydraulic brake systems and point machines. Pentopol J32’s special properties enabled us to ideally meet the high requirements of our applications. As some additives were no longer available, the production of Pentopol J32 was stopped as of the beginning of 2022. By Lutz Klostermeier.
HANNING & KAHL began early to qualify new hydraulic oils as replacements for Pentopol J32 in order to continue to guarantee smooth operation of our systems in use worldwide.
Intensive tests were performed to qualify new hydraulic oils and ensure approval. Series of tests were carried out on the media resistance of seals and other surfaces. Similarly, examinations of the lubricating properties were performed to rule out sub-assembly wear. Suitability for use of the new hydraulic oils was also tested intensively. It is vital, for example, that temperature influence on the hydraulic oil does not lead to any changes in the behaviour (reaction times) of the brake systems.
Two hydraulic oils have now been successfully approved as successors for Pentopol J32:
- Renolin ZAF 32 BHV
- Mabanol Hyd J32
To make the introduction of new hydraulic oils as straightforward as possible for car builders and operators of vehicles and point machines, mixability of the different hydraulic oils was also a major concern alongside technical compatibility.
The two successors can be mixed with Pentopol J32 in any ratio for HANNING & KAHL systems. It is therefore not necessary to flush or clean the hydraulic systems. However, if the hydraulic oils are mixed, please note that an oil analysis of the mixture can no longer be clearly assessed.
Renolin ZAF 32 BHV and Mabanol Hyd J32 are two modern hydraulic oils which fulfil all requirements of a hydraulic brake system and have been approved for deployment in HANNING & KAHL brake systems. This approval also applies to all point machines for trams and light rail vehicles which had previously been operated with Pentopol J32. AeroShell Fluid 41 hydraulic oil is still used for point machine H715. There are no changes here.
