Windhoff delivers Trackwork Train to VGF

Windhoff Bahn- and Anlagentechnik has delivered a new three-section trackwork train to Frankfurt’s public transport company Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF). The train consists of two trackwork vehicles (GAFs) and a rail-track transportation vehicle (STW) which can be deployed in different configurations. When two GAFs are coupled, the train consist has unrestricted bi-directional capacity. By Berthold Fingerhut

The two trackwork vehicles consist of driver’s cab, a motor and a payload area. One of the trackwork trains is fitted with a loading crane. The rail-track transportation vehicle has a long payload area to transport the tracks to the work site. The tracks can be lifted from the rail-track transportation train and laid on the track bed with the crane on the trackwork vehicle.

All of the trackwork train vehicles are equipped with a HANNING & KAHL hydraulic braking system and magnetic track brakes. The GAFs have two motos pro bogie each with a brake disc and a spring-applied brake caliper. The STW has a spring-applied brake caliper on each motor bogie. Both braking systems are activated by the HEY-C brake control unit.

The GAF’s braking system has stepped brake force application, whereas in the STW the brake force is applied steplessly to the brake calipers. Load sensors convey the load to the brake control unit. Each bogie has its own wheel-slide protection. Each bogie also has an auxiliary release hydraulic unit to be able to electrically release the spring-applied brakes independently of each other.

With the HANNING & KAHL braking system, the trackwork train fulfils all BOStrab requirements and the technical specifications for the dimensioning and testing of brakes (TR Br.). On account of its versatility, the train can be used flexibly, and the fully air-conditioned cabin is a safe and comfortable workplace for drivers.
