Calibration at HANNING & KAHL – For Measurable Quality and Safety
Exact measurements yield know-ledge, and awareness of current status is the groundwork for sound decisions. Accurate calibrating of measuring devices is thus the basis for reliable choices in maintenance work which are even more important in view of the omnipresent cost pressure. By Robin Dölling
In order to offer our customers of the HZM force-measuring device best possible service, HANNING & KAHL GmbH & Co KG decided to set up a calibration process on our own premises. This entailed acquiring the skills and mapping a process which our customers trust and benefit from. It is advantageous for customers to get everything from a one-stop shop and it is also important for us, and particularly our service staff, to maintain proximity to our customers and to the product over the entire product life cycle. This is a good investment in the future, as shown in 2024 when we carried out more than 300 calibrations for our customers.
Factory calibrations are performed in compliance with DIN EN ISO 376 and guideline DKD-R 3-3 issued by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS). Force-measuring pins and strain gauge measuring amplifiers are calibrated by comparing the values measured by the test equipment with a known reference value. This reference value is the factory standard which is an accredited working standard proven as per DAkkS standard. It can be traced back seamlessly to the national and international standard via a reference standard.
HANNING & KAHL GmbH & Co KG offers factory calibration for forces up to 20kN and electric voltages up to 2mV/V. The customer can choose from the following three options:
A. Calibration of a force-measuring pin
B. Calibration of a HZM force-measuring device (strain gauge measuring amplifier)
C. Calibration of a measuring chain, force-measuring pins with HZM force-measuring device (strain gauge measuring amplifier)
Options A and B are generally chosen because the force-measuring pins selected can be accurately used with any HZM force measuring device. For examination purposes, the HZM reads the calibration data from the memory of the force-measuring pin and can now be used reliably. The following are performed:
• Cleaning
• Visual inspection followed by function test
• Replacement of accus and batteries
• Software update (optional)
• Factory calibration with a test station accredited per DAkkS standard
• Compilation of a factory calibration certificate (decision on conformity and indication of calibration deadline)
• Archiving of calibration results in test-equipment management
The calibration result determines whether the current measuring accuracy conforms to the manufacturer‘s specifications. If the differences on the tested force-measuring devices or force-measuring pins are too great, they are adjusted anew. Defective equipment is repaired on request, ensuring sustainability.
