One small symbol – with great effect

Industry-standardized labelling enables efficient and automated handling throughout entire product life cycles. Global Standards One (GS1) is such a standard and we are now gradually introducing GS1 labelling on our products.   by Stefan Gerlach

Most of our products have a serial number as well as type designation and a material  number. This data is displayed together with the date of manufacture on a type plate which is then permanently attached to a device. This way each device is clearly identifiable and assembly and testing processes, for example, can be tracked at device level.

This data will continue to be clearly legible on our type plates. What is new is that our products will also carry a GS1 code. This code will contain HANNING & KAHL’s unique manufacturer identification, product ID and device ID (serial number). If required, it can also bear an item number which customers may give to our product. 

In line with the standard, we will display the code in data matrix code and in plain text. Where possible, we shall apply this additional new label directly to our type plates. We are convinced that this will make handling our products much easier for you, our customers. Labelling will run from incoming goods, to recording of installation location, tracking of maintenance measures and general overhauls. Simple scanning of the codes makes for increased efficiency and avoids errors caused by manual data entry. 

This is another small step in our continuous product optimization process.
