Commissioning the signalling installations for Lisbon trams

At the beginning of November 2025,  HANNING & KAHL GmbH & Co. KG and A. Paukner, S.A. successfully completed the implementation of a state-of-the-art control and signalling system, enabling the connection of Carris tram lines 15 and 25 in the technically challenging district of Santos. On account of its narrow streets, heavy traffic and exacting topography, the Santos district poses particular challenges for tram operations. Connecting lines 15 and 25 requires complex control of points and signals. In addition, the historic building fabric’s structural limitations complicate the installation of modern infrastructure.

The integration of HANNING & KAHL controllers, point machines, track circuits and LED signals greatly increases the flexibility of Lisbon’s tram network while sustainably enhancing the safety, availability and reliability of the system.
