Sustainability Taking Root

HANNING & KAHL’s 2025 Service Days were held in Zwickau under the motto “The Future on Rails: Spotlight on Sustainable Service”. For HANNING & KAHL, the perfect setting, not only to address sustainability, but to implement it in concrete terms. By Sigrid Riewe-Scholz

For the first time, the conference was evaluated using a CO₂ event calculator. Factors considered  included participant arrival and departure, overnight stays, catering concepts, energy and resource consumption of the event location as well as the transportation of equipment and material. The event´s overall CO₂ emissions were calculated from this data.

The emissions determined were then converted into a compensation amount and forwarded as a tree donation to the city of Zwickau. Supported by the Donate a Tree program, the city’s green area maintenance and management department plants numerous trees in parks, green and street spaces every year. The tree which we donated was consciously planted at a bus stop, thus symbolically connecting the topic of the conference, our daily work in the field of public transport with a very tangible contribution to a greener cityscape.

Our Service Days 2025 were thus not just professional exchange, but also a permanent visible sign of sustainable mobility – in the very spot where it is experienced daily.
