TINA tram enters into service

Stadler’s TINA tram is now in service on multiple lines – and standing out with its vehicle concept consistently focused on comfort, safety and efficiency. The generous headroom, large panoramic windows and entirely step-free access combine to create a spacious experience that makes every trip a pleasant one – including and especially for passengers with reduced mobility. But it’s not just the passengers who benefit from the new vehicle design – there are also tangible gains for TINA drivers: the intuitive operating concept, state-of-the-art driver assistance systems and optimal view of the traffic situation increase both safety and comfort in daily operation. The compact chassis technology also ensures a quiet ride, reduces wear on the wheels and rails, and simplifies maintenance and upkeep.

From an early stage, we set an ambitious target together with Stadler: to develop a brake system for the TINA platform that would meet the highest safety, efficiency and reliability standards. Already in 2019, the first prototypes were put through their paces in Krakow – an exciting moment that marked the beginning of an intensive development journey. Step by step, test by test, the system continued to grow, always driven by the clear concept of a standardised platform.

Today, the results are on full display: almost all TINA projects benefit from identical brake callipers and hydraulic units that are used equally for trailer and motor bogies. The significant investment in development is now paying off: new projects require only a minimum of extra effort and costs have been lowered – a win for all involved.

The benefits of the platform concept are also evident when it comes to servicing: fewer variants means less warehousing and training as well as a considerably more streamlined and efficient overall system.

The platform concept itself may not be new, but this cooperation with Stadler is the first time we have implemented it with such consistency and precision. From the beginning, the collaboration has been characterised by trust, creativity and a focus on finding solutions through teamwork. This is a joint success with long-term benefits for both parties.

The TINA trams with new bogie technology and our hydraulic brake systems are now in service on lines in several cities:

HEAG mobilo GmbH has ordered 25 TINA trams for Darmstadt. These have a high low-floor proportion, expansive panoramic windows, comfortable seating areas and modern air conditioning, monitoring technology and driver assistance systems designed for safer and more efficient driving operations.

The TINA trams are also used by Baselland Transport AG (BLT) and are a feature of the Basel urban and rural landscape. The 25 modern, fully air-conditioned low-floor vehicles are replacing Schindler trams that are more than 40 years old.

In Halle, Hallesche Verkehrs-AG (HAVAG) has opted for a total of 56 vehicles, including 17 XL and 39 M versions. Their generous headroom, open multifunctional areas and energy-efficient drive systems combine to create a spacious experience, while the digital displays and driver assistance systems increase safety.

In The Hague, public transport company HTM operates 62 three-section bi-directional trams that are 36.5 metres in length and can take up to 230 passengers. These trams stand out with their panoramic windows, generous multifunctional areas and individual driver assistance systems, including collision prevention.

In Rostock, Rostocker Straßenbahn AG (RSAG) uses 30 three-section uni-directional trams that are 32.25 metres in length and can accommodate 216 passengers. These trams are equipped with Wi-Fi, USB charging points, modern TFT displays, a video surveillance system and cashless ticket machines. The accessible multipurpose areas for children’s buggies and bicycles are also particularly spacious in design.

GVB Verkehrs- und Betriebsgesellschaft Gera has nine TINA trams in use, which also feature large low-floor areas, accessible multipurpose areas and modern monitoring systems. The innovative bogie technology ensures a quiet ride and ease of maintenance.
