The Ongoing Tram Revival: From A to Z, from Augsburg to Zürich - A global phenomenon

Four years ago, in our 88th edition of the Tram News, I wrote about the “Renewed Renaissance” of the Tram. Today, in the 106th edition, I am delighted to inform you that the tram comeback continues unbroken.

This sustained growth is reflected in the continuous increase in our order intake for rolling stock and infrastructure products. By acquiring new trams and replacing old vehicles, tram operators are increasing their capacity in order to cater for the growing number of passengers. The new trams offer greater comfort, more space, WLAN and air conditioning, all of which make the “tram” experience more attractive.

New vehicle acquisitions place greater demands on infrastructure. Fleets are being enlarged and the new vehicles are often longer. This leads to depots being expanded, new facilities being built, and lines extended into neighbourhoods which were previously not connected.

As vehicle fleets and line extensions grow, so, too, do the service departments at HANNING & KAHL. We offer general overhauls, commissioning, training workshops and spare-part packages. After all, it takes a customer-oriented and high-performing service to provide a convincing all round “tram” system!
